The paddle below lake James dam and into Rhodhiss lake is spectacular. Mountains, great big granite rocks and lots of natural land. Had a short portage without incident at Morganton spillway. We were treated with a hot lunch, water refill and a cell phone charge at Friday Friends Diner in downtown Morganton. Found a cozy cove for the night when thunderstorms were circling but happily we were not hit by the rain. Estimated miles for the day 20.5. Total trip miles 51.5.
