This post is in regards to Friday night and Saturday.
Friday night shortly after I finished the blog, while we were preparing to climb into our hammocks, we heard a cell phone ring 4 times and then stop. This phone sounded less than 30 feet away. This is remarkable because we were in a fairly remote location and believed no one was around. After running commando style (with machete and stun gun in hand) through the woods and finding nothing we quietly went to bed mulling over many likely and unlikely, pleasant and unpleasant scenarios since then.
Saturday morning we woke after a night with no more incident than rain and packed up. We stopped at Latta Plantation after a bit of paddling. We crossed Mountain Island lake, a peaceful little lake near the Charlotte airport. Had a relatively long but easy portage around the dam.
We paddled down to lake Wylie all the day expecting heavy rain. Around 5 pm dark clouds gathered and strong wind pushed us from behind. We tried making a sail out of a tarp but had no success. We managed to paddle just to the NC/SC boarder and the headed to the Harbor Marina where some super nice folks kept the place open after hours so our trip hero, Carl could pick us up again and deliver us to Joseph's brother David's house where we are going to rest and reorganize Sunday (while it rains). Carl treated us as well as Joseph's mom, Bobby to dinner. Such a treat after a long paddle. Many thanks to the Harrison family who have been so generous!
